Alta Ares Successfully Tests High-Speed Turbojet Interceptor in Arctic Conditions with Estonian Armed Forces
Alta Ares has successfully demonstrated its Black Bird turbojet interceptor in Arctic conditions with the Estonian Armed Forces, validating high-speed counter-UAS capabilities in extreme cold environments. Operating at temperatures as low as -25°C at altitude, the system completed three consecutive successful flights, reaching speeds of 450 km/h, a significant technical achievement under such harsh conditions. Powered by ALM Meca’s turbojet propulsion system, Black Bird proved its reliability and operational readiness for NATO’s northern theatres.
The demonstrations validated Alta Ares’ full interception ecosystem, including real-time communications, live video transmission, and the Pixel Lock target detection and tracking system.
With Estonia positioned on NATO’s eastern flank and facing persistent drone threats, scalable and cost-effective counter-UAS solutions are a strategic priority. Already operationally deployed in Ukraine since 2024 and recently recognized through NATO’s Innovation Challenge, Alta Ares continues to expand its footprint across the Baltic region.
