SpacEngineer Brings Its Space-Grade Impact Gel to Aviation and Defense

Portugal’s SpacEngineer is adapting its space-grade impact-protection gel, Impact2Space (I2S) — originally engineered to shield satellites from debris travelling at over 7 km/s — for use in commercial aviation, defense, and motorsport.

The ESA-backed, Braga-based startup says the material disperses impact energy across a wider area to reduce the risk of catastrophic failure, while also cutting structural weight by up to 10%.
