Airbus, Thales Alenia Space, and RADMOR Partner to Develop Poland’s Sovereign Satellite

Airbus Defence and Space, Thales Alenia Space, and RADMOR have officially joined forces to develop a geostationary defence telecommunications satellite for the Polish Ministry of Defence. The agreement was announced on April 20, 2026, in Gdańsk, Poland, during a ceremony attended by Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and French Minister of the Armed Forces Catherine Vautrin. The event highlighted the longstanding industrial cooperation between Poland and France, further strengthening European ties in the defence and space sectors.

Strengthening Poland’s National Space Sovereignty

The new satellite, part of the ‘Readiness 2030’ initiative by the European Commission, is designed to enhance secure communications for the Polish armed forces. With a focus on resilience and robustness, the satellite will operate in a more contested space environment, ensuring cyber-secured communications across both the ground and space segments. This system is built to withstand cyber threats and jamming, bolstering Poland’s space sovereignty and strategic autonomy.

A Collaborative Effort for Innovation and Competitiveness

The three companies, Airbus Defence and Space, Thales Alenia Space, and RADMOR, bring their combined expertise to the project, with a focus on military communications payloads, mission control, satellite platform design, secure infrastructure, and cybersecurity.

A Strong European Defence Commitment

This partnership marks a significant step toward strengthening European defence sovereignty, with Poland’s new satellite offering a secure, resilient, and mission-critical communications system that meets the evolving challenges of modern defence environments.
