Lockheed Martin Introduces LampreyMMAUV: Autonomous Undersea Dominance
Lockheed Martin has unveiled the Lamprey Multi-Mission Autonomous Undersea Vehicle (MMAUV), a fully autonomous, plug-and-play submersible platform designed for contested maritime environments.
Built to support U.S. Navy covert access and sea denial missions, LampreyMMAUV introduces a novel operational model: it can attach to host surface ships or submarines without modification, recharge using integrated hydrogenators, and deploy with a fully charged battery upon arrival in theater.
The platform’s open-architecture, payload-centric design allows rapid customization across mission sets, from anti-submarine warfare to UAV deployment. Its dual-mode capability enables both stealth intelligence and surveillance operations (Assured Access) and active disruption or strike missions (Sea Denial).
Internally funded to accelerate development cycles, LampreyMMAUV reflects a broader strategic shift toward autonomous, persistent, and lower-cost systems capable of reshaping maritime balance without relying on manned assets.
