Pixxel Awarded NRO Contract for Hyperspectral Remote Sensing
Pixxel, a leader in hyperspectral Earth observation, has been awarded a contract by the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) under its Strategic Commercial Enhancements Commercial Solutions Opening.
This award will support the NRO’s efforts to evaluate and integrate emerging commercial hyperspectral data sources into its next-generation remote sensing architecture.
Advancing Commercial Hyperspectral Capabilities
Through this contract, Pixxel will demonstrate how hyperspectral imagery can deliver insights beyond conventional imaging. By capturing detailed spectral information, hyperspectral data can help analysts better characterize materials, environmental conditions, and activity patterns that are not visible through traditional imagery.
The demonstration will leverage Pixxel’s operational Firefly constellation, designed to deliver hyperspectral data and analytics with the speed, scale, and precision required by intelligence and national security users.
Supporting a Multi-Phenomenology Remote Sensing Architecture
The contract reflects the growing interest of the U.S. government in integrating commercial remote sensing capabilities into national security workflows.
For Pixxel, the award represents a significant opportunity to demonstrate the value of commercial hyperspectral data as part of a more diverse, multi-phenomenology sensing architecture.
The work will be led by Pixxel Federal, under the leadership of Allyson Jenkins, VP, Public Sector at Pixxel.
A Step Forward for Space-Based Intelligence
With its Firefly constellation now operational, Pixxel is well positioned to support government customers with advanced hyperspectral imaging and analytics.
This milestone further confirms the role of commercial space companies in shaping the future of Earth observation, intelligence, and national security.
