ArcSpace Raises €2M+ to Advance In-Orbit Satellite Servicing
ArcSpace, a Paris-based SpaceTech startup part of BLAST Cohort 3 developing technologies for in-orbit satellite repair, assembly, and servicing, has secured more than €2 million in funding to accelerate its next stage of growth.
The round was led by DEPO Ventures, through its DEPO Ventures One fund, alongside SCE Freiraum Ventures, IRDI Capital Investissement, and a French Business Angels network. The new funding will support team expansion, flight hardware qualification, and preparations for ArcSpace’s first in-orbit demonstration mission planned for 2027.
Making Satellite Repair Possible in Orbit
Founded in 2022, ArcSpace is developing a new approach to in-orbit servicing based on its proprietary Electron Beam technology. The compact system enables cutting, joining, and welding directly in the space environment, including in deep-space vacuum. Unlike conventional servicing approaches that often depend on standardized interfaces and satellites specifically designed for maintenance, ArcSpace’s technology is designed to enable the capture and repair of spacecraft that were never originally intended to be serviced. This capability could fundamentally change how high-value space assets are managed once they are in orbit.
From Servicing to In-Space Manufacturing
ArcSpace’s roadmap extends beyond satellite repair. The company aims to use the same technology for in-orbit assembly and manufacturing, as well as the construction of larger structures in space and eventually on the lunar surface.
The company has already attracted interest from more than a dozen commercial companies and established collaborations with major institutional players including CNES, ESA, and the European Defence Fund.
Towards the First Autonomous In-Orbit Demonstration
ArcSpace has recently completed demanding environmental testing, including high-vacuum and mechanical vibration tests. The new funding will enable the company to accelerate its in-space validation programme, with a first demonstration planned for 2027. ArcSpace aims to demonstrate more than 100 seconds of fully autonomous welding aboard a spacecraft, before bringing its first products to market from 2028. The company’s initial applications will target satellite life extension, de-orbiting, and dual-use missions, before expanding toward larger-scale in-orbit and lunar assembly.
Building the Infrastructure for a More Sustainable Space Economy
As the number and value of assets in orbit continue to grow, the ability to repair, modify, and extend the lifetime of spacecraft is becoming increasingly important. ArcSpace is positioning its technology as an enabling capability for a more sustainable, resilient, and serviceable space infrastructure, moving the industry beyond the traditional one-time-use model.
